§ 20833 State Miscellaneous Member Contributions

Key Takeaways

  • •Money put in by the state for certain workers (called 'state miscellaneous members') is only for them.
  • •This money helps these workers when they retire or if something happens to them.
  • •If a worker dies, their family can get this money, not anyone else.

Example

A school janitor works for the state and pays into a retirement fund.

The money the state adds to this fund can only be used for this janitor when they retire, or for their family if they pass away. No one else can take this money.
