§ 20477 Individual Agency Action Authority

Key Takeaways

  • •If a public agency is led by one person (not a group), that person can make decisions alone.
  • •If a law says a group must do something, but the agency is led by one person, that person does it instead.
  • •This rule helps agencies led by one person work faster without waiting for a group.

Example

A small town’s mayor needs to approve a new park rule.

If the town’s laws say a group must approve rules, but the mayor is in charge alone, the mayor can approve it without a group vote.
