§ 17250 Warrant Endorsement Transfer Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •The Controller can sign over a special check (called a 'reimbursement warrant') to someone else if it's registered.
  • •Once signed over, the new person gets the money and rights from that check, even if the original person already got paid another way.
  • •This rule is about making sure the check can be sold or given to someone else legally.

Example

Imagine you have a check from the government for $100 because you fixed a pothole. You need cash now, so you sell the check to your friend.

The Controller signs the back of the check to your friend. Now your friend gets the $100, even if you already got paid for the pothole another way.
