Key Takeaways

  • •The government can write checks from a special fund called the General Cash Revolving Fund.
  • •These checks must follow rules set by the Department of General Services.
  • •The checks can only be written for things the law says are okay to pay for.
  • •The Treasurer is the one who actually pays these checks from the fund.

Example

The government needs to pay for new school supplies.

If the law says school supplies can be paid for from the General Cash Revolving Fund, the Controller can write a check for it. The Treasurer will then pay that check if everything follows the rules.
