§ 12406 Controller Deputy Appointments

Key Takeaways

  • •The Governor can pick 3 special helpers for the Controller (a money boss for the state).
  • •The Controller gets to suggest who these helpers should be.
  • •These helpers don’t have to take the usual state worker tests.
  • •Hiring them can’t make the Controller’s office spend more money.

Example

Imagine the school principal (Controller) needs 3 extra assistants but can’t spend more money.

The principal asks the superintendent (Governor) to pick 3 people without making them take the normal school district tests, and the school’s budget stays the same.
