§ 12404 Controller’S Executive Appointments

• •Certain important jobs in the State Controller’s Office are called 'civil executive officers'.
• •The Controller can pick other workers in the office to also be 'civil executive officers' while they do their normal jobs.
• •The Controller can also take away this title from those workers.
• •The Controller must write down these changes and send them to the Secretary of State to make them official.

Imagine you work in a big office that handles the state’s money. Your boss is called the Controller.

Your boss can decide to give you a special title called 'civil executive officer' while you do your normal job. If your boss decides later that you shouldn’t have that title anymore, they can take it away. But your boss has to write it down and send it to another big office (the Secretary of State) to make it official.
