§ 5503 Certificate Approval Process

Key Takeaways

  • •The boss (commissioner) has to say 'yes' or 'no' to a group's request to start a business after they ask or have a meeting.
  • •If the boss says 'yes,' the group gets a paper saying they can start their business, but they might have to do a few more things first.
  • •If the boss says 'no,' they have to tell the group why in writing if the group asks. The group can't ask again and must stop using the name they picked for their business.

Example

A group of friends wants to start a club to help animals. They ask the boss for permission to start this club.

The boss looks at their request and says 'yes.' But first, the friends have to show they have a place for the animals and some money to take care of them. Once they do that, the boss gives them the final okay to start their club. If the boss said 'no' instead, the friends would have to stop using the name 'Happy Paws Animal Club' and pick a new one if they tried again.
