§ 5501 Association Certificate Petition Notice

Key Takeaways

  • •If someone asks for permission to start a new group (like a club or company), the boss in charge has to tell everyone about it in writing.
  • •The notice must say the name of the new group and where their main office will be.
  • •If the boss decides to have a meeting about it, they must tell everyone when and where it will be—at least 10 days ahead but no later than 60 days.
  • •Anyone who cares about this can go to the meeting (or send someone for them) to say why the new group should not be allowed.

Example

A group of people wants to start a new credit union in town and asks the state for permission.

The state boss must send a letter to all the other credit unions telling them about this new group, where their office will be, and when the meeting is. If you don’t want this new credit union to open, you can go to the meeting and explain why.
