§ 2052 Endangered Species Habitat Protection

This law says the state wants to protect endangered and threatened animals and their homes, and it plans to buy land to keep those habitats safe.

Key Takeaways

  • •The state’s policy is to conserve, protect, restore, and improve habitats for endangered or threatened species.
  • •The state is allowed to buy land to create or keep safe habitats for those species.
  • •This is an official goal of the Legislature to help keep at‑risk animals from disappearing.

Example

The state buys a piece of wetland where a rare frog lives so a developer can't build a shopping center there.

Because the law says the state should get land to protect habitats, the government can purchase the wetland to make sure the frog's home stays safe.
