§ 7576 Pest Seed Disposal Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •If you have a bunch of leftover seeds from cleaning crop seeds, and those leftovers have bad seeds (like weeds or harmful plants), it’s considered a public problem.
  • •You can’t just keep or sell these bad seed leftovers—you have to get rid of them the right way.
  • •If you don’t get rid of them properly, the government can take them away from you.

Example

A farmer cleans his wheat seeds and ends up with a pile of leftover bits that have weed seeds mixed in. Instead of throwing them away properly, he leaves them in a bag in his barn.

Those leftover bits with weed seeds are a problem because the weeds could spread and ruin other crops. If the farmer doesn’t dispose of them the right way, the government can take the bag away to stop the weeds from spreading.
