§ 74694 Vintner Commission Termination

Key Takeaways

  • •If more than half of the wine makers (51%) who make more than half of the wine (51%) want to stop the commission, they can ask the director to end it.
  • •The request to end the commission must be in writing and given within 90 days.
  • •People can change their mind and take their name off the request before it’s given to the director.
  • •The request can be on multiple papers, but each person must sign with their name and where they work.

Example

Imagine 100 wine makers in California, and 51 of them make 60% of all the wine. If these 51 wine makers sign a paper saying they want to stop the commission, the director must end it.

The law says that if more than half of the wine makers (51 out of 100) who also make more than half of the wine (60%) ask to stop the commission, the director has to do it. They have to ask in writing within 90 days.
