§ 6289 Unpaid District Claims Process

Key Takeaways

  • •If a claim against a district isn't settled in 90 days, it goes to the county supervisors.
  • •The county supervisors will review and approve the claim like they do for county claims.
  • •The money to pay the claim comes from the dissolved district's funds.

Example

A farmer has a claim against a local water district for damages to his crops.

If the water district doesn't settle the claim within 90 days, the farmer can take it to the county supervisors. They will review it and, if approved, pay the farmer using the district's money.
