§ 42942 Deceptive Produce Packaging Ban

Key Takeaways

  • •You can't trick people by packing or selling fruits, nuts, or veggies in a way that hides what's really inside.
  • •This includes making the package look bigger or better than it really is.
  • •It's against the law to lie about how much or what kind of fresh or dried food you're selling.

Example

A store puts a big layer of fresh apples on top of a box but fills the rest with rotten apples underneath.

This is illegal because the store is tricking you into thinking all the apples are fresh when they're not.
