§ 12045 Committee Member Terms

This law says that committee members normally serve for three years, and if someone leaves early, a new person fills the rest of that time.

Key Takeaways

  • •Committee members have a three‑year term.
  • •If a spot opens up before the term ends, the replacement only serves the leftover time.
  • •The rule applies unless a special exception is made in Section 12046.

Example

A person is elected to a school board for three years but quits after one year.

The board must pick someone else to finish the remaining two years of the original member's term.
