§ 87807 Academic Salary Protection Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •If you work at a community college in a teaching job, your boss can't cut your pay just because you didn't take extra classes or get more school training.
  • •This rule protects teachers from losing money if they don't finish extra courses the college asks for.
  • •The college can still ask you to take more classes, but they can't punish you by paying you less if you don't.

Example

A math teacher at a community college is told to take extra night classes to learn new teaching methods. The teacher doesn't have time and doesn't take the classes.

The college can't lower the teacher's salary just because they didn't take those extra classes. The teacher keeps getting paid the same amount.
