§ 87817 Midyear Academic Hiring Pay

Key Takeaways

  • •If a teacher starts working at a community college in the second half of the school year, they must be paid at least half of what a full-year teacher in the same job would make.
  • •This rule makes sure teachers don’t get paid too little just because they started late.
  • •It only applies to teachers in community colleges, not other jobs.

Example

A math teacher gets hired at a community college in January (the second half of the school year).

The college must pay this teacher at least half of what a full-year math teacher would make, even though they’re only teaching for half the year.
