§ 87469 Community College Contract Employee Hours

• •If you work as a contract employee at a community college, you might be considered a full-time worker for the year even if you don’t work all year.
• •You need to work more than 75% of the hours that a full-time employee with the same job works in a year (two semesters or three quarters).
• •If you hit that 75% mark, the college has to treat you like you worked the whole year.

If a full-time professor teaches 20 hours a week for 30 weeks in a year, that’s 600 hours total. A contract professor who teaches 460 hours in the same year would be treated like they worked the whole year.

The contract professor worked more than 75% of the full-time hours (460 is more than 75% of 600), so the college has to count it as a full year of work for them.
