§ 87061 Employee Rights During Reassignment

Key Takeaways

  • •If a teacher or professor at a community college moves to a non-teaching job in the same college, they keep all their old benefits like sick leave and sabbatical rights.
  • •They also keep their seniority and job security from their teaching job while working in the new non-teaching job.
  • •If they go back to teaching later, it’s like they never left—their time and benefits continue as before.

Example

A community college math professor takes a job as an administrator at the same college.

The professor keeps all their sick days, sabbatical rights, and job security from their teaching job. If they go back to teaching later, it’s like they never stopped—no loss of benefits or seniority.
