§ 48663 Community Day School Attendance

Key Takeaways

  • •A community day school must have at least 360 minutes (6 hours) of teaching time each day.
  • •A student can only count as being in school once per day, even if they stay longer.
  • •For extra money from the state, schools count attendance in hours: 5 hours = half a day, 6+ hours = full day.
  • •No independent study (working alone at home) can replace the required 6 hours of in-school teaching.

Example

A student attends a community day school for 5 hours on Monday.

The school can only count this as half a day for extra funding because the law says 5 hours = half a day.
