§ 87062 Classified Employee Academic Transfer Rights

Key Takeaways

  • •If you work at a community college in a non-teaching job (like an office or maintenance) and switch to a teaching job at the same college, you keep all your sick days, vacation time, and other benefits you already earned.
  • •Your seniority (how long you've worked there) and job security stay the same while you're teaching.
  • •If you go back to your old non-teaching job later, it’s like you never left—no loss of benefits or seniority.

Example

A janitor at a community college becomes a part-time math teacher at the same school.

The janitor keeps all their saved sick days and vacation time from their old job. If they stop teaching and go back to being a janitor, they get their old job rights back like nothing changed.
