§ 45387 Classified Employee Training Reimbursement

Key Takeaways

  • •School districts can pay back money spent by permanent school workers (like janitors or office staff) for classes or training that helps them do their job better.
  • •The training can be classes at a college, workshops, or meetings that help workers learn new skills, especially if their job might change because of new technology.
  • •Workers can’t get this money back if another group (like the government or a union) is already paying for their training.
  • •Workers can also take at least one paid day off each year to go to training during work hours.

Example

A school custodian wants to take a class to learn how to use new cleaning machines.

The school district can pay back the cost of the class if it helps the custodian do their job better. If the custodian’s union is already paying for the class, the school won’t pay again.
