§ 41010 School District Accounting Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •Schools must follow the rules in the California School Accounting Manual to keep track of their money.
  • •The manual tells schools how to record and manage their money, but it doesn’t tell them what to teach.
  • •Only the people running the schools (like teachers, principals, and parents) decide what kids learn.

Example

A school wants to buy new computers for the classroom.

The school must follow the rules in the California School Accounting Manual to write down how they spent the money on the computers. But the manual doesn’t say whether the computers should be used for math, science, or art—that’s up to the teachers and parents to decide.
