§ 35707 School District Reorganization Petitions

Key Takeaways

  • •If people want to change school district boundaries (except for moving land), they must send a request to the county committee first.
  • •The county committee checks if the change would hurt the county's school setup or follows the rules in Section 35753.
  • •The committee sends the request and their opinion to the State Board of Education.
  • •If the request is just about moving land, they follow different rules (Section 35704).

Example

A group of parents wants to merge two small school districts into one bigger one.

The parents must send their request to the county committee. The committee checks if merging the districts would cause problems for the county's schools or if it follows the rules. Then, they send the request and their opinion to the State Board of Education.
