§ 1004 County Board Size Election

This law says that if the county committee wants to change how many people sit on the county school board, they must put that change on the next school‑board election ballot for voters to approve or reject.

Key Takeaways

  • •The county committee can only change the board size by passing a resolution.
  • •That resolution becomes an election order and must appear on the next board election ballot.
  • •The ballot wording is fixed: it asks voters to vote Yes or No on increasing or decreasing the board size.

Example

The county committee votes to shrink the school board from seven members to five members.

Because of this law, the committee must put a yes‑or‑no question on the next school‑board election ballot that asks voters if they want the board size changed from seven to five. Voters then vote Yes or No.
