§ 9500 Stop Payment Notice Requirements

Key Takeaways

  • •You can't demand payment for a claim if you didn't warn the other person first.
  • •You must send a special notice (stop payment notice) on time to ask for payment.
  • •The usual government claim rules don’t apply here.

Example

You fixed someone’s roof but they didn’t pay you.

Before you can force them to pay, you must have warned them earlier (preliminary notice) and then sent a stop payment notice on time. If you didn’t do these steps, you can’t make them pay.
