§ 8834 Contractor Stop Work Notices

Key Takeaways

  • •Before stopping work, the main contractor must warn the owner at least 5 days ahead by posting a notice where everyone can see it, like at the main office of the job site.
  • •The warning notice must follow the rules from Chapter 2, which starts at Section 8100.
  • •When the main contractor finally stops the work, they must also tell all the subcontractors they hired directly about the stop work notice.

Example

Imagine a company is building a new school. The main contractor is upset because the school owner hasn't paid them for months.

Before the contractor can stop all the work, they have to put up a warning sign at the school's main office at least 5 days before stopping. This sign has to follow certain rules about how it looks and where it's placed. When they finally stop the work, they also have to tell all the smaller companies they hired, like the plumbers or electricians, that the work is stopping.
