§ 5670 Lien Dispute Resolution Requirement

Key Takeaways

  • •Before putting a lien on your home for unpaid fees, the association must talk to you first.
  • •You can ask to meet and discuss the problem before they take action.
  • •This meeting is required by law and must follow the association's rules.

Example

You live in a neighborhood with a homeowners association (HOA). You missed paying some fees, and the HOA wants to put a lien on your house.

The HOA can't just put a lien on your house. They have to offer you a meeting to talk about it first. You can ask for this meeting to try and fix the problem before things get worse.
