§ 8621 Complaint Filing Deadlines

Key Takeaways

  • •You have 2 years to complain about someone breaking the rules in their job (like a doctor or builder).
  • •If they lied, were really careless, or tricked you, you get 4 years to complain.
  • •The people in charge have 18 months to act on your complaint, unless it's about lying or tricking—then they get 2 years.

Example

A builder does a bad job on your house and ignores safety rules.

You have 2 years to tell the board about it. If the builder lied about fixing something important, you get 4 years to complain. The board then has 18 months to do something about it.
