§ 3046 Optometry Licensing Requirements

Key Takeaways

  • •You must finish school at an approved optometry program to get a license in California.
  • •You have to pass tests to prove you know how to be an optometrist.
  • •If you’ve done something really bad (like certain crimes), you might not get the license.
  • •If you have to register as a sex offender, you can’t get the license.

Example

A person finishes optometry school and passes all the tests but was convicted of a crime that requires them to register as a sex offender.

Even though they did everything else right, they won’t get their optometry license because of their criminal record.
