§ 17533 Newspaper Circulation Misrepresentation

Key Takeaways

  • •You can't lie about how many people read your newspaper or magazine.
  • •This includes newspapers or magazines on the Internet.
  • •The lie must be on purpose to trick advertisers or others into giving you money.

Example

A magazine owner tells a company that 1 million people read their magazine every month, but really only 100,000 people read it.

The owner lied about how many people read the magazine to get more money from the company for ads. This is against the law.
