§ 17530 False Real Estate Statements

Key Takeaways

  • •You can't lie about a house or land when you're trying to sell or talk about it in ads, online, or anywhere else.
  • •If you know something is false and you say it anyway to trick people, that's breaking the law.
  • •Newspapers or printers aren't in trouble for printing the lie unless they own the property or are selling it.

Example

A person puts an ad online saying their house has 4 bedrooms when they know it only has 3.

This is against the law because they lied on purpose to trick people into buying the house.
