§ 5694 Homeless Mental Health Support

Key Takeaways

  • •Homeless people with mental health problems should get help to start support groups and talk to peers who understand them.
  • •Each person in the program gets a written plan that lists the help they’ll get, their rights, and what the help is supposed to do for them.
  • •The plan is made by talking to the person and can include their family, friends, therapist, and doctor if they want.

Example

A person named Alex is homeless and has anxiety. They join a program to get help.

The program will help Alex start a group with other people who have anxiety so they can support each other. Alex will also get a written plan that says what help they’ll get, like therapy or a place to stay, and what the program hopes will happen, like Alex feeling better or finding a home. Alex can ask their sister and therapist to help make this plan.
