§ 5253 Certification Notice Delivery Requirements

• •The person being certified must get a copy of the notice in person, or their lawyer or advocate can get it.
• •The person can choose someone else to also get a copy of the notice.
• •If the person can't choose right away, they can pick someone later when they're able to.

If someone is being certified for a mental health treatment and they have a family member they trust, they can ask that the family member also gets a copy of the notice.

The law makes sure the person knows about their certification and can choose someone else, like a family member, to also know about it. If they're too sick to choose right away, they can pick someone later.
