§ 345 Juvenile Court Hearing Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •Cases about kids in trouble go to a special court session—no other cases are heard there.
  • •Only the kid’s family or witnesses can be in the courtroom, not other people accused of crimes.
  • •If a kid is locked up just for needing help (like no safe home), their case gets heard first that day.

Example

A 12-year-old is taken to court because their home is unsafe.

The judge will hear their case right away that day, and only their grandma (family) can stay in the room—no strangers or other accused people allowed.

Cases in which the minor is detained and the sole allegation is that the minor is a person described in Section 300 shall be granted precedence on the calendar of the court for the day on which the case is set for hearing. (Amended by Stats. 1987, Ch. 1485, Sec. 31.)
