When you pay for a birth certificate, there’s an extra fee. If your county doesn’t have a special group to manage that fee, most of it goes to help kids in the state.

The law says that if the county doesn’t create a commission to handle the extra fee from birth certificates, the money (minus a small part for collecting it) must be sent to the State Children’s Trust Fund.
