§ 18376 Senior Health Volunteer Funding

Key Takeaways

  • •The state can help pay for programs where nurses visit senior housing to give health advice.
  • •The state can also pay for training and supporting senior volunteers who help other seniors with advice and referrals.
  • •The state will pay up to half the cost of these programs, unless it's for training volunteers, where they might pay the full cost.
  • •Local cities or counties can help by giving money, facilities, or services, but they don’t have to if the program is just for training volunteers.

Example

A local health agency wants to start a program where nurses visit senior centers to check on older adults and give health tips.

The state can help pay for this program, covering up to half the cost. If the agency also wants to train senior volunteers to help with counseling or referrals, the state might pay the full cost without requiring local matching funds.
