§ 1741 Commitment Information Reports

Key Takeaways

  • •When someone is sent to prison, the judge, prosecutor, and probation officer must share info about that person with the prison.
  • •They share details like the person's job, education, family, and if they were hardworking and good before.
  • •They use a special form to write down all this info.
  • •Even after the person is in prison, the court and police must share any other important info they have about the case.

Example

John is sent to prison for stealing cars.

The judge, the lawyer who put John in prison, and the probation officer must tell the prison about John. They write down things like where John went to school, what jobs he had, if he was a good person before, and who his friends were. They use a special form to do this. Even after John is in prison, if the police find out more about his car stealing, they have to tell the prison.
