§ 10604 County Welfare Funding Requirements

This law says the state gives money to counties for welfare, but counties must pay part of the cost. The state also makes rules for how welfare is given out.

Key Takeaways

  • •The state gives money to counties for welfare, but counties must pay part of the cost.
  • •The state makes rules for how welfare is given out, and counties must follow them.
  • •The county's share of the cost is based on a set percent of the total welfare expense.

Example

A county gets money from the state to help people with food and housing.

The county must pay some of the cost, and follow the state's rules on who gets help and who doesn't.

How to Calculate

County's share = (County's proportion) × (Total welfare expense)

  1. Find the total cost of welfare help.
  2. Check the law to see what percent the county must pay.
  3. Multiply the total cost by the county's percent to find their share.

The state gives $100,000 for welfare, and the county must pay 20%.

Result: The county pays $20,000.
