§ 9002 Drainage Easement Levy Rule

• •If your land gets help from a drainage system, you might have to pay for it.
• •The payment is called an 'easement' and is only for lands that benefit from the drainage.
• •This rule was added a long time ago, in 1943.

A farmer's field often floods, so the government builds a drainage ditch to help. The farmer's land is now safer from flooding.

The farmer will have to pay a fee (easement) because their land benefits from the new drainage ditch.
