§ 8885 Drainage District Land Trust

Key Takeaways

  • •If a drainage district buys land at a sale because the owner didn't pay taxes, the land is held for the district.
  • •The land is kept to cover the unpaid taxes or fees that led to the sale.
  • •The district doesn’t own it for fun—they hold it to make sure the money owed gets paid.

Example

A farmer doesn’t pay his drainage fees for years, so the district sells his land to get the money.

The district buys the land at the sale but doesn’t keep it forever. They hold it to make sure the unpaid fees are covered.
