§ 75574 Groundwater Overdraft Assessment Requirements

Key Takeaways

  • •The board must figure out how much extra water has been taken from the ground over the past 10 years.
  • •They need to guess how much extra water will be taken this year and next year.
  • •They must calculate how much water is needed to refill the ground water supply.
  • •They have to know how much water they promised to buy from others.

Example

Imagine a small town that uses water from underground for farms and homes. Every year, they take out more water than rain puts back in.

The town's leaders must check how much extra water was taken in the past 10 years, guess how much will be taken this year and next year, and figure out how much water they need to add back to fix the problem. They also have to remember how much water they agreed to buy from another town.
