§ 258 Dam And Water Land Leases

Key Takeaways

  • •The state can buy land now for future dam or water projects, even if they don’t need it yet.
  • •If the state owns land for dams or water but isn’t using it, they can rent it out to others.
  • •The state can set the rules for renting the land and take care of it to make money from rent.

Example

The state buys a big empty field near a river because they might build a dam there in 20 years.

Since they don’t need the land right now, they can rent it to a farmer to grow crops. The state sets the rent price and makes sure the land stays in good shape.
