§ 22171 Sewage Disposal District Election

Key Takeaways

  • •The irrigation district can decide to have an election to see if people want sewage disposal services.
  • •The election can be for the whole district or just a part of it.
  • •The ballot will ask if the district should provide or buy sewage disposal services for areas that don't have good sewage systems yet.
  • •If the district needs approval from a local agency, the ballot will mention the plan they sent to that agency.

Example

Imagine your neighborhood doesn't have a good way to get rid of sewage, and the local irrigation district wants to fix that.

The district might hold a vote where everyone in the neighborhood can say 'Yes' or 'No' to whether the district should start providing sewage services or buy existing ones. If most people vote 'Yes,' the district can move forward with the plan.
