§ 22084 Reservoir Water Measurement Requirements

Key Takeaways

  • •If you own a big water storage tank (reservoir) that uses a natural river or stream, you must put in special tools to measure the water.
  • •These tools must be placed both above and below the reservoir to track how much water you take, store, and use.
  • •The local water boss (watermaster) decides what tools you need and checks if they’re working right.
  • •This helps make sure you’re only using the water you’re allowed to take.

Example

A farmer builds a big pond on a river to store water for crops.

The farmer must install water meters above and below the pond so the watermaster can check how much water is being taken from the river and used on the farm. If the farmer doesn’t do this, they could get in trouble.
