§ 21929 Ballot Proposal Format Requirements

Key Takeaways

  • •Ballots must clearly explain what people are voting on, including how much money is involved.
  • •Each voting option must have 'Yes' and 'No' with a space to mark your choice.
  • •Small mistakes in how the ballot is written won’t cancel the election.

Example

A town wants to build a new school and needs money, so they ask people to vote on it.

The ballot must say something like 'Should we spend $10 million to build a new school?' with 'Yes' and 'No' options for people to check. Even if the ballot has a tiny typo, the vote still counts.

§ 21929 Ballot Proposal Format Requirements

The ballots shall contain a general statement of the proposals to be voted on, including the amount of bonds proposed to be issued for each purpose, but no informality in the statement shall vitiate the election. Each proposal shall be followed by the words “Yes” and “No” on separate lines with a small inclosed space after each of the two words. (Added by Stats. 1943, Ch. 372.)
