§ 12203 Delta Water Diversion Limits

This law says no one can take water from the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta if the people who normally use that water need it.

Key Takeaways

  • •The Delta's water is for the people and farms that have always used it.
  • •No one else can take that water if the Delta users need it.
  • •This includes people, companies, or even the government.

Example

A farmer in the Delta uses water from the river to grow crops. A big city far away wants to take some of that water for its people.

The law says the city can't take the water if the farmer and others in the Delta need it for their crops or daily use.
