§ 16457 Financial Responsibility Vehicle Coverage

This law says you must have insurance for every car you own or drive, and you can't lie about owning a car when getting insurance.

Key Takeaways

  • •You must have insurance for every car you own or drive.
  • •If you get a new car, you have to tell your insurance company right away.
  • •You can't hide the fact that you own a car when getting insurance.

Example

You buy a new car but don't tell your insurance company about it.

If you drive the new car without adding it to your insurance, you're breaking the law. You could get in trouble even if you don't get into an accident.
