§ 16376 Nonresident Judgment Driver Suspension

This law says that if someone from another state gets in a car crash in California and doesn't pay the money they owe, they can't drive in California until they pay up and show they have car insurance.

Key Takeaways

  • •If you're from another state and cause a car crash in California, you have to pay the money the court says you owe.
  • •If you don't pay, you can't drive in California until you do.
  • •You also have to show you have car insurance to get your driving privileges back.

Example

A person from Nevada gets into a car accident in California and is found at fault. The court says they must pay $5,000 for the damages.

If the person from Nevada doesn't pay the $5,000, they won't be allowed to drive in California until they pay the money and show they have car insurance.
