§ 95162 Petition Signature Verification

Key Takeaways

  • •If you collect signatures on a petition, you must swear that each signature is real.
  • •You can use multiple papers for the petition, but each one needs this promise.
  • •The promise must be written and signed by the person who collected the signatures.

Example

You gather signatures to ask the city to build a new park.

After collecting names, you must write and sign a statement saying, 'I promise all these signatures are real and from the people who signed them.' If you don’t, the petition might not count.
