§ 50032 Petition Signature Verification

Key Takeaways

  • •If you collect signatures on a petition, you must swear that every signature is real.
  • •You can use multiple papers for the petition, but each one needs your promise that the signatures are true.
  • •This rule is to make sure no one fakes signatures on important papers.

Example

You are gathering signatures to ask the city to build a new park.

If you have 10 papers with signatures, you must write a promise on each one saying, 'I swear all these signatures are real.' If you don’t, the petition might not count.
